About the OAG

Established

The Office of the Auditor General was established in 1998, alongside the formation of the Puntland State of Somalia. Its core function is independent external audit of public funds in Puntland. The OAG's enabling statute is being brought into INTOSAI / ISSAI conformance and is not yet fully on the public record (see Authority).

Mandate

Independent external audit of the public sector accounts of Puntland State of Somalia. Audit categories include financial audit (the annual audit of the State's consolidated accounts), compliance audit, performance audit, forensic audit, and donor-funded project audit. Findings are issued as published reports.

Leadership

The institution is led by the Auditor General. The current incumbent and contact details are maintained on the live OAG site at oag.pl.so and on the contact page. The name of the current officer is not printed here so the page does not become stale on succession — the office endures, the officer rotates.
